Mummers will be staging 'Fame' at their new location starting Aug. 28

The Fontana Mummers have a new season and a new home.

The local community theater group will begin its 31st year with a production of the musical "Fame" at the new location, 8443 Nuevo Avenue.

The play opens Saturday, Aug. 28 at 8 p.m. and will continue through Sept. 12.

"Fame" was originally scheduled to start on Aug. 21, but additional remodeling of the new building needed to be finished, and so the opening was delayed one week.

"Fame" covers the story of several young people who audition to be accepted by the New York High School of Performing Arts, and then follows them through their four years at the school to their graduation.

The cast includes:

The actors - Nick Piazza (Richie Sande), Serna Katz (Kacie Moss), Joe (Jose) Vegas (Victor Lomeli).

The dancers - Tyrone Jackson (Nathaniel Brown), Carmen Diaz (Deyana Castellanos), Iris Kelly (Joy Ann Punzal Custodio), Mabel Washington (Sharon McCall).

The musicians - Schilomo Metzenbaun (Justyn Derek), Grace "Lambchop" Lamb (Malori Johnson), Goodman "Goody" King (Art Garcia).

The teachers - Miss Ester Sherman (Jeanette Lopez), Ms. Greta Bell (Renee Ogletree), Mr. Sheinkopf (Mischa Cluff), Mr. Meyers (David Maxwell Banner).

Ensemble - Denise Castellanos (understudy for Iris), Lexy Romano, Robert Whitt, Lori Dunn, and Ahmed A. Alabaca.

Vint Gary Shurtliff is the director of the play and Justyn Derek is the choreographer.

Also contributing are Dennis Thompson (musical director), Joseph Vincent Impastato (technical director), and Levi Arana and Johnny Mills (technical staff).

Tickets are $15 for general admission, $12 for seniors and students, and $8 for children 11 and under.

The Mummers' new location is next to the Moose Lodge and across from the Fontana Water Company.

Due to mature subject matter, it is advised that persons under age 15 be accompanied by an adult.

Reservations are recommended and may be made by calling 822-4052.
