‘Rosetta' hits the stage in Provincetown

PROVINCETOWN -- A full-length musical theater workshop of “Rosetta” will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 11, through Saturday, June 13, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, at The Provincetown Theater, 238 Bradford St. Based on the life of gospel and virtuoso guitarist Sister Rosetta Tharpe, the musical features 13 original songs, with book, lyrics and music by Candyce Rusk and music and arrangement by Craig Toungate. Margaret Van Sant directs, with musical direction by Clyde Shelby Mellert.

Marishka Phillips performs the title role. At age 13 she was cast in the European tour of “Raisin”. She also has performed in the Broadway musicals “Uptown: It’s Hot,” “Bubblin’ Brown Sugar,” “FAME: The Musical” and “The Wiz,” and on TV she has been in “The Cosby Show” and “A Different World.” She also toured with Sean P. Diddy Combs, Christian Castro and CeCe Winans.

The cast also includes Gabriel Calixte, Karen Dash, Jane Macdonald, Sarah Macdonnell, Jimi Little, Alyson Hyder, Griff Griffith and Bragan Thomas. The show is presented by Ctek Arts.
