FAME! The Musical

Legwarmers at the ready - the 80's musical classic is coming to the stage at The Helix from 1st - 3rd April 2008!

FAME: The DCU Musical Venue: The Helix Date: 1st - 3rd April Time: 20.30 (3rd only) / 20.00 (1st & 2nd only) / 18.00 (3rd only) Tickets: €17 / €12 (conc) Long before You're a Star , American Idol or - um - Fame Academy brought us ambitious youngsters with a pitch-perfect song in their heart and a spring in their well-choreographed step, there was FAME - the definitive 80s tale of sexy young things slogging their heart and souls out for a chance at the big time (and making dance-wear and leg-warmers cool in the process). We may never forgive FAME for its impact on fashion (the recent 80s revival only rubbed salt in the wounds of those old enough to actually remember the horror the first time around), but no-one can deny the films themes of ambition, triumph, heartache and rejection have stood the test of time - even if the bubble perms haven't! The spectacular all-singing, all-dancing stage adaptation - Fame: The Musical - has been wowing audiences in Broadway and the West End since its first performance in 1995, and now it's coming to Dublin courtesy of The Helix , and DCU Drama ! The show promises to be a rollercoaster of emotion and drama, with up-tempo music, stunning visuals, breathtaking dance sequences and raw acting talent. Director Stephen Grimes has already shown his cajones as one of the stars of last year's sell-out success, The Full Monty (which beat off the amazing DCU Fashion Show to win Best Event at the DCU Clubs and Societies Awards 2007), and proved his worth as a director with the 2005 DCU panto Babez in the Hood , and the fantastic Helix-staged black-comedy Iago (2006). The outstanding all-student cast, meanwhile, promise to sparkle under the vocal direction of accomplished musical director Éadaoin Kelly , who's also been worked on shows in Draiocht , The Gaiety and The National Concert Hall (amongst others). So do yourself a favour and enjoy a blast from the past with this timeless musical classic. Book your tickets for Fame online now , or by calling the Helix Box Office on  01 700 7000 . There are some serious stars in the making here so, baby, remember their names!
