One lucky winner of an audition will take to the stage with the cast of Fame the Musical at the Theatre Royal in Norwich on November 30.

We all remember the leg warmers, leotards and, of course, that song. Now there is the chance for one lucky EDP reader to take part in the stage version of Fame - in front of 1300 people.

Inspired by the Academy Award-winning film, Fame the Musical is coming to Norwich's Theatre Royal from November 29 to December 4.

The show follows the dreams and disappointments of the pupils at New York's legendary High School for the Performing Arts.

The Theatre Royal and the EDP have joined forces to give Norfolk's own star-struck dancers and singers the opportunity to audition for a one-off appearance in the hit musical.

The lucky person will receive a one-to-one master class with the dance captain and the chance to watch the opening night of the show with a friend and join the cast for the after- show party.

Theatre Royal spokesman Kevin Sides said it was something that had been done only a few times before in other areas where the show had been.

“It's been very successful. Fame is a story of students who are really keen on singing and dancing, and perform-ing arts in general, making their way through the New York school. We thought it would be good to give local people the chance to do that on a smaller scale. I am sure we are going to get quite a lot of interest.”

The winner will be on stage for 10 to 15 minutes in the finale of the show, which last came to Norwich in 2002.

“It's really popular. There is a lot of demand for the show and we were lucky that they had a week free for us,” added Mr Sides.

The auditions will be held at The Garage, Norwich's own centre for performing arts and training, on Tuesday November 23 at 4pm.

Those wanting to take part should be aged 16 or over, with good singing and dancing ability. Hopefuls should come prepared with a two-minute dance routine and their chosen music on CD.

Judges from the Theatre Royal, EDP and Fame company will choose a winner, who will appear on stage at the 7.30pm performance on Tuesday November 30.

They will also get six tickets for the show, so friends and family can witness their 15 minutes of Fame.

Anyone interested in auditioning must fill in an application form. They can be picked up from the Garage or the theatre, by e-mailing k.sides@ theatreroyalnorwich.co.uk or sending an SAE to Press Office, Theatre Royal, Theatre Street, Norwich, NR2 1RL.
