Grand Canal Theatre to Host Fame: The Musical
2010
By Dave Phelan

Fame: The Musical featuring Ben Morris and Jessica Cervi – winners of RTÉ’s reality talent search show of the same name makes its stage debut in Dublin’s Grand Canal Theatre this autumn.

An excited Morris said, “I was amazed when they announced my name and said that I had won. I was delighted but it actually felt more of a win for my family and friends who had campaigned so hard for me all the way through the show. They have been unbelievable.”

The stage adaption of the classic film focuses on the lives of a group of New York talent school students who grapple with issues of prejudice, identity and self-worth.

Morris faced his own hardship throughout the series – at one stage finishing in the bottom two, “one of the most talented female singers was in the bottom two with me and she got voted off, which felt like the worst time,” Morris said.

Like Morris, Cervi maintains that the support of her family helped her take all in the show, “my family was there every Sunday and then my dad would spend all week watching the recordings. I think he drove my little brother mad," the actress said.

Fame: The Musical is in Dublin’s Grand Canal Theatre from August 19th to September 12th before taking in a nationwide tour.
