First peek at 'Fame' (the next generation)

Wake the kids, phone the neighbors. A generous p.r. flack passed along a sneak peek at the cast of the updated Fame. The movie isn't scheduled to open until Sept. 29 but I guess MGM wanted to strike while American Idol is warming up the public's taste for disposable talent.

History lesson: Fame was a surprising musical hit in 1980, the first jete' of the MTV generation. Alan Parker's movie focused on students at New York's High School for the Performing Arts as they sang and fretted through four years of training to become stars... they hope. Featuring a Whitman's Sampler of teenage stereotypes, Fame earned six Oscar nominations and won two, for the disco-fueled title song and Michael Gore's original score.

It's the kind of movie that can be remade anytime musical tastes change, which is about every other day for the iPod generation.

If you've wondered who the next Irene Cara and Gene Anthony Ray will be, your hints are below.
