Fame wannabes bid for stardom

7th April 2011

BUDDING actors took to the stage in a bid to star in the smash hit musical Fame when it comes to Clacton this summer.

More than 100 youngsters auditioned for the production which is being staged at the Princes Theatre by the Youth Theatre Performerz.

The show's producers had the tough task of whittling the hopefuls down to a final cast of just 50.

The Fame film and TV show were massive hits in the 1980s.

It is set during the last years of New York's High School for Performing Arts and tells the story of a group of arts students' bid for fame.

Team director Melissa Wenn said the turnout for auditions had been fantastic.

“This will be the biggest youth show in Tendring since We Will Rock You in 2006,” she said.

Three performances will take place from June 16-18.

The group then hope to take the production to Biberach in Germany as part of a town twinning visit.

Tickets priced £10 and £12 are already on sale from the box office on 01255 686633.
